Red Painting Day

One of the rare positives of ongoing lockdown is the opportunity to enter more online art competitions. With so much, certainly in terms of exhibitions , going online means it is very possible to enter US competitions from the comfort of your own home without the worry about transportation if you are accepted. This is a particularly big issue for pastel paintings which can be quite fragile until safely hung.

So it is with this in mind that I entered the Collage Artists of America annual open exhibition. For me collage is an exciting way to start a pastel painting as it breaks up the work surface and allows my imagination to play a very large part in where the painting ultimately goes.

And Good News. My painting was accepted so will be shown in the up and coming online exhibition. I also marked my painting as ‘NFS’ or ‘Not for Sale’ so no problems there either.

One good way to find these competition opportunities is to keep an eye on OnlineJuriedShows.com. Some of the shows are restricted in terms of entrants some are obviously not!

My accepted entry is ‘Red Landscape’ – image size 36×54 mms – started with random collage and final layer of soft pastel.

And the letter reads:_
CONGRATULATIONS! We are pleased to inform you that your work, referenced above, has been accepted into Collage Artists of America, “Parallel Dimensions” exhibit.

EXHIBIT: This is the link to the SFVACC/SCORE website where the exhibit will be on display: https://sfvacc.org/  starting February 1, to February 28, 2021; also on the Online Juried Shows website’s “Published Shows” section. This was a highly competitive exhibit with 150 selected from 340 entries.

VIRTUAL RECEPTION:  February 6, 2021, 5:00pm to 7:00pm PST   (see link and instructions below)

So have a think about those paintings you are particularly proud of. Maybe they are winners as well? It is a whole new world but one, in my opinion, worth dipping your toe into it – particularly in these very strange times we live in.
