New home and new studio

2017 has been a momentous year for Peter and I. We took the hard decision to move from Corfe Castle to Poundbury , Dorchester. Not only a new home and also a studio for me. Until this move I had been working in what I called an ex-bedroom . I never quite felt I could call it a studio . But now I can. The wonderful ‘Eric’ came and put in rather a lot of cupboards and storage for larger work and canvases etc. All cupboard space is now full but at least painting has recommenced. And it is very exciting indeed . No more worries about walking pure pigment over carpets ( thus ruining them) or splashing the walls with acrylic ink ( again carpet ruined).

In the beginning…….

How much stuff……..

Getting there!

Excitement in Corfe Castle!

I only tell my friends this but my secret goal in life is to achieve membership of the UK Pastel Society . I am hoping that dream got one step closer when I had 2 paintings hung at this years Pastel Society Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. Like other prestigious art groups in the UK this road is not an easy one . As a first step on the path I need to have 2 paintings accepted to be hung in two consecutive years – and so far my record has been one , one then this year – two . So no pressure for 2018!

Getting those paintings hung involves 2 rounds of judging, taking the paintings to London for the final round of selection – from who knows how many thousands of applications – a process that takes weeks.

Anyway I got two in! Yes two. From six that got through to final judging.

Both were from a new series using the print process ( talked about in previous postings) and then layers of soft pastel on top.

So the near misses included :-

Carrying on the print underpainting theme

I am enjoying continuing to experiment with a print underpainting followed by dry and wet soft pastel work ( with some gold ink thrown in!)
